Meet The Founder
Samika Agarwal
I’m Samika Agarwal, a high school senior, certified EMT, biomedical researcher, and aspiring hematologist-oncologist. My interest in medicine has grown through very different experiences, from responding to calls and volunteering in hospitals to studying cancer biology and disease pathways through research.
Across all of them, I’ve come to believe that good care starts with making sure a patient feels heard. My goal with ASL4Responders is to help Deaf and Spanish-speaking patients feel less isolated in moments that are already frightening, and to encourage a kind of healthcare where communication, dignity, and understanding are treated as part of the care itself.

As a certified EMT with the Scotch Plains Rescue Squad, I have cared for patients by taking vitals, gathering histories, assessing pain, and helping support them through the first moments of an emergency. Those calls showed me how much trust and communication matter before a patient ever reaches the hospital

Physician Shadowing
Internal Medicine + Dentistry
Shadowing let me see how physicians moved from a patient’s story to a decision, whether that meant managing a chronic condition, choosing a referral, interpreting a radiograph, or preparing for a procedure.
It made medicine feel less like a series of answers and more like learning how to ask the right questions.

TERT + TERC Mutations
Foundational Research Project
Used ClinVar, NCBI, and RNAfold to study how mutations in TERT can reduce telomerase activity and how TERC variants can alter RNA folding and stability. This project introduced me to connecting a genetic change to what it can actually do at the molecular level

Authored a 8,200+ word research paper analyzing 27 experimentally tested HLA-A*02:01 neoantigens in triple-negative breast cancer to ask what makes a mutated peptide more recognizable to T cells. Compared mutation position, mutant versus wild-type binding, and biochemical change
